Our closed cycle optical cryostat is a sample in vacuum cryogen-free 4 K cryostat, no liquid helium required and easy to use.


The cryostat is capable of achieving sample temperatures as low as 2.8 K without the need for liquid helium.  This brings significant benefits in terms of running cost and ease of use.

  • Low vibration using a Pulse Tube Refrigerator (PTR).  Typical displacement amplitudes on the second stage heat exchanger in the radial and axial directions are typically 7 and 12 micrometers respectively

  • Large sample space, with a sample in vacuum environment, enabling studies of samples with a wide range of size and geometry

  • Optimised clear beam throughput (12.7 mm diameter aperture) allows a large illumination area for measurements involving the detection of low intensity light

  • Electrical measurements via 10-pin electrical feed wire to heat exchanger
